Another Widget Blog

So...again with the blogging.

The weather here in Grinnell is beautiful, and I just got done
listening to Pat and Ron on the radio. Even though the Cubs lost, the
warm weather and ridiculous banter gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling, or
maybe that was some bad chicken I ate at dinner. Either way.

The thing about widget blogging it it makes me title every entry and
condenses the text into stanza-like form. So feel free to consider
what I'm writing to be poetry. Hey, if we're lucky, maybe Pat will
actually grace us with some actual poetry. Hmm...or would that be
unlucky...

on the idea of baseball play by play as poetry, alex, you should check out a book this guy did in which he transcribed, verbatim, the words of yankees announcer phil rizzuto. i can't do it justice, but it went something like,

high and outside
good time of year to buy a car,
best time, prices are down
woa, that one had zip,
but up in the count
i've always been a chevy man
but gimme a good deal and
holy mackerel that was smoked
against the wall
three bases
yankees take the lead 2-1
just hope my old heap
makes it home
today

the same guy published the press conference remarks of donald rumsfeld as poetry. gimme some time and i'll remember his name. he teaches in upstate new york as i recall
